Seven Feet of Tension, Not Six

  • by

During these times of COVID, my mind immediately went to the recommended distance to repel ourselves from bystanders. Six feet. Porsche, on the other hand, has establish a tension distance of seven feet. Seven feet of a strung belt running all the components needed to make this V8 do its business while keeping everything separate.

According to Porsche Club of America, the 1984 928S had a 16-valve 4.7-liter V8s with 242 hp. This one belt makes it happen. It keeps timing so components move in proper sequence without crashing. But what if the timing belt breaks? Well, you may be stranded but at least your engine will live to run another day. The next model year came interference motors that allowed everything to crash into each other if it breaks. While that may add to your tension, at least this year of COVID is offering some relief.
